What we knew almost 30 years ago.

“In-service training may be available to prepare teachers for individual and group interventions that have a counseling theme, yet even the best of workshops does little to insure that applications of concepts and techniques are consistent with training received. Indeed a major failing and source of frustration with in-services is the lack of follow-up with teachers to insure fidelity of application and to monitor effectiveness” (Ehly & Dustin, 1989, p. 157).

Course Components Descriptions

Interactive Video Lectures

The video lectures make up the majority of the RBT training and cover all the tasks on the RBT task list as well as the Code elements designated as relevant to RBT level practitioners.  During the video lectures students will encounter a variety of actives, exercises and questions, video demonstrations, video application practice activities. Questions will include, multiple choice, multiple select, matching, and short answer responses.

Students are required to watch each video from beginning to end and at the end of the videos in each module; the student will receive a video verification code. The student will need to write down this code and enter it into the canvas course site to confirm that all module videos were completed. Submission of this code will unlock the module competency quiz.

Fluency Flashcards  (SAFMEDS)

Part of learning behavior analysis is learning the technical language of the science. While RBT students are not responsible for being fluent in all the terms of behavior analysis, there are some that will be relevant to their everyday work. Within the course students will be able to practice virtual fluency flashcard so that key terms may be mastered.

Fluency Quizzes

After the student practices the fluency flashcards they will take a timed Vocabulary Fluency Quiz in the canvas course site. Not all modules include a fluency quiz. The terms for some modules are combined together for the fluency quiz (e.g. M1 does not have a fluency quiz and the M2 quiz includes terms from both module 1 and M2).  For the quiz, 10 randomly selected terms from the Fluency Flashcards will be presented one at a time. When presented with the definition or description, the student will provide the corresponding term(s) by typing the answer into a text box within the quiz.  Students must accurately type the term(s) for a minimum of 8/10 within the time limit to move on. Fluency quizzes as many times as needed to meet this passing criterion. Each quiz will be 10 new, randomly selected terms from the module fluency flashcards.

Module Competency Quizzes

Once students complete the videos, exercises and vocabulary quiz for a particular module, they then need to complete the module competency quiz.  Competency quizzes are included in each module and there are 10, multiple-choice questions to be completed. These quizzes will allow the student to assess their knowledge as they go and ensure they have mastered the module content prior to moving on. Detailed feedback will be provided on form A of this quiz to assist students in further studying if they do not pass the quiz the first time it is taken. Form B does not provide feedback, but students will be able to retake this version of the quiz over and over, as needed, to meet the passing criterion. Meeting the passing criterion is required before moving on to the next module within the course.

Post-Course Mock Assessment

The Post-Course Mock Assessment is a cumulative test that covers material from the entire 40 hrs. Two forms of this assessment are available. Detailed feedback will be provided on form A of the test to assist the student in further study should they need it. Form B will not have feedback, but students may retake this version of the test as many times as are needed to score at or above the passing criterion.
